Roslin (Midlothian)

Roslin (sometimes spelt Rosslyn or Roslyn) is a village in Midlothian. Supposedly founded in the 3rd Century AD, Roslin grew substantially as a mining village in the 19th Century. The village is home to the Rosslyn Chapel and the Roslin Institute, where in 1996 Dolly the Sheep became the first animal to be cloned from an adult cell. Slatebarns Farm lay to the south of Roslin village and Chapel. In the background are Penicuik Road on the left and the Royal Hotel on the right. The tenant farmer was Robert Crawford.

Midlothian Council area was created in 1996, adopting the boundaries of the then Midlothian district of Lothian region.
