The Hidden Landscape

Pupils from the James Hamilton Academy show us the parks of Kilmarnock that are seldom noticed by detractors of their community. Award-winning photographer Colin Prior reveals some simple tips to help capture great photographs in the outdoors. Kilmarnock is a town in East Ayrshire. It sits on the River Irvine and the Kilmarnock Water.

The settlement may date back to a 7th Century religious site. The town developed with the growth of textile manufacturing and later mining and heavy industry. In this film, pupils from James Hamilton Academy take a look at some of the greener parts of the town, including Dean Castle Country Park and Kay Park.

East Ayrshire Group

East Ayrshire is one of Scotland’s 32 unitary council areas. It was formed in 1996 from the former Kilmarnock and Loudon and Cumnock and Doon Valley districts.

It borders North Ayrshire, South Ayrshire, East Renfrewshire, South Lanarkshire and Dumfries and Galloway.
