Happy New Year

Happy New Year to everyone. Today the first day back at work after the holidays. Life here is progressing well. The new windows are in - i would highly recomend Ness Glaze in Stornoway. They are very efficient and the windows are really keeping out the draughts. The kitchen is now in and almost finished. Visitors over Christmas could not believe the progress since summer. Lewis is definitly home now having been to the mainland over the New Year it was bliss to set wheels back on Stornoway tarmac last night after a rather rough crossing. We have been here two years now and don't regret our move at all. In fact after talking to folk on the mainland we feel very privileged to be living here and enjoying ourselves with freshh clean air. Okay the wind can be terrible but at the moment it is almost tropical here compared with mainland areas. The range is still working nineteen to the dozen as the gallons of hot water and toasty radiators up the stairs are testament to. Roll on Spring when we can start trying to tame the garden and outlying land - any ideas and suggestions for hardy plants would be welcome. What are the best vegetables to grow up here?
Hope all are well and cheerful and that this new year brings you all health and happiness.

Window Day at last!

Hi again
Many thanks to those who responded to my last blog - it's reassuring to know that it went on site ok.

Today the man from Ness Glaze came and measured for our new windows so all being well they will be in before Christmas. It's been blowing a real hooley up here today with rain in sheets and then brilliant sunshine - very unpredictable. Hubby has fitted another door frame and ames taped all the kitchen on his day off. It's good having a handyman as a hubby. This wind finds all the crevices to get into the house. The poor range is working nineteen to the dozen to keep us warm. That was installed in March this year and what a blessing. So far there are five radiators from it and hot water - brilliant although we have still to bring in the rest of the peats so lovingly dug earlier in the summer.

Did any other bloggers go the Sean Wilson concert at the British Legion on Friday night? What thoughts?

Well will sign off for now. Thanks for visiting.

21 months along

Well, here goes. First time at this having been reading other blogs and thinking what am I missing out on. We have been here 21 months this month and not a dat goes by when we don't feel so very lucky and blessed to be here. To drive to and from work without having to sit in traffic jams is sheer bliss. To watch the sea with its many different faces is a joy. The sunsets, cloud patterns, colours and magical light makes me feel glad to be alive. Life is definitely good. Our house is coming together slowly - having bought a semiderelict house two years ago, there is always more work to be done. It had more water inside than out when we arrived so living in a caravan was the only option. The house is now watertight and is recognisable as a home once more. Progress is slow but steady and we are happy which is the main thing. Will leave it at that for a first post to see how it goes. Hope life is treating others kindly. Take care.
