David. Posted 26 Oct 2002. My earliest memories of moving from our tenement flat in Paisley was around the summer of 1955. I remember sitting in the back of the removal van from Mill St to Glenburn. (a brand new housing estate built on the west side of Paisley). I remember the smell of the new buildings and finding a bath in the loo. We still had open fires although they were smokeless and only one or two cars could be found in the street. Different from nowadays.
I remember the cafes on most streets with the guys wearing the drainpipes and sideburns (some with Norton and Triumph Motorcycles, BSA and Royal Enfield.) Although I was too young those were the days for bikes. Yes I would have loved to have ridden a Norton Commando in those days without the traffic we have now. | | |
| | Alex Currie. Posted 4 Nov 2002. Hi David Read your letter about moving to Glenburn, I may be mistaken, but I think Glenburn was south of Paisley, I visited there quite often in the Sixties and Seventies during holidays I had in Scotland. If I remember right, from the cross we used to go up or down Causeyside as far as what used to be Potterhill and go right from there, you can get back to me on that. Yours Aye Alex.

| | David. Posted 9 Nov 2002. You got me on that one Alex I think you are correct. I thought west as the road from Glenburn goes west to Irvine via Lugton then onto Girdle Toll. I won't argue on that one Alex ha ha! How are you keeping my friend? Over the last week I have been in terrible pain and off work. Had to visit the hospital last week with twisted vertebrae. Feeling o.k. now. Chat to you soon Alex Bye for now. Davie.

| | Alex Currie from Toronto. Posted 27 Dec 2002. Hi Dave,
Sorry to hear that you are having back problems, and I certainly hope you are feeling better,at least better enough to enjoy the Xmas season, and all the joys that come with it.You have neber mentioned what you do at work,do you have a physically demanding job,or do you do most of your work with your head,I myself was a plumber which at times can be quite strenuous, and can often lead to back injuries and such things, but fortunately I escaped with nothing more than a wee bit of arthritis which can be painful at times but mostly is more of a nuisance than a severe illness, nevertheless,I can sympathise with you .As you may know I am retired and living the life of riley,as they say and enjoying every minute of it,hang in there Dave, have a great Xmas, and an even greater new year,it's always nice to hear from you, yours Sincerely Alex.

| | Gordon Clarke from Denmark. Posted 14 Nov 2005. I lived in Glemburn (Mull Ave.) from about 1955 until I left for Denmark in 1964. I worked as an aprentice at John Lang & Sons. Does anyone want to talk about "The Good Old Days"?
I remember the sun shining every day but logically I know that didn't happen :)
I do remember teenage life in the late 50's and early 60's - jeez I'm starting to feel old!
To be honest I've never regretted moving to Denmark and if anyone wants to know how it is then just ask.
Gordon
P.S. I always thought of Glenburn as south of Paisley. I had a neighbour here in Denmark who came from Foxbar.
