My grandfather George Moss was born in East Lothian, Aberlady in 1857. He immigrated to New South Wales, but soon tired of government service and took up pastural pursuits in Queensland. In the early eighties he overlanded to Halls Creek, and was in the early Kimberley gold rush. After a period in Broome he engaged in prospecting on the eastern goldfields for some years.
He accompanied the explorers Giles and Carnegie on their trips to the interier, before again settling in Broome where he was engaged in the Pearling industry for 37 years, at one time owning 12 luggers. He met and married my Grandmother in 1897. They had eleven children, and one of them was my mother. George was the first chairman of the Broome roads board. He left his family back in scotland or england and am wondering if any of his relations are still there. One day I hope to travel to Scotland. I love to watch take the high road which is on weekdays here in Australia although it is twelve years behind.

I note with interest that your father was born in Aberlady in 1857 but you dont say when he emigrated to Australia? You may be interested in a recently published autobiography of a childhood in Aberlady from 1862-1877. It may be that your father was living here at the time of the author, maybe they were friends.

Good afternoon,

Please accept my appologies for contacting you concerning the following.

In 1970 we met a scottish couple in Greece, Rob & Sheila Smith, from Dunfirmline.
We travelled around Greece and Israel with them for 3 months.
later they came to Holland to assist us with renovating a little bar in the east of Holland, Mill, . Sheila was pregnant at that time with her daughter Fiona.
The last letter we received from them was in august 1973 from the
address in Kelty, Fife.
Later they send us a card from Australia, but left nog adress. Rob and Sheila had another daughter Ruth( or Claire). The family moved to Australia.
Since a long time I am looking for our dear friends Rob and Sheila.
Rob And Sheila were present at our wedding. I have a photograph of them, date November 1, 1971.
Rob was a carpenter in 1971.
We ourselves moved from the east of holland to the west in 1977. It is possible that the Smith Family tried to contact us there with no results
