Derek Mathieson from Darlington, Co. Durham. Posted 17 Jun 2005. Does anybody remember the shows at the Empire, White Heather Club long summer seasons, with Robert Wilson, Gordon MacKenzie and Will Star.
I also remember the premier of The Young Ones at the old Playhouse in Inverness, which was managed by James Nairn...how many remember 'Fairyland' in the restaurant each christmas? | | |

| | Beverly Wood from Dundee, Scotland. Posted 16 Sep 2005. Yes, I remember visiting the Empire as a child 45 years ago.
My mother (Pamela Brough) played the piano in the Ian Powrie Scottish Dance Band as part of the Andy Stewart show. She had plenty long summer seasons in many theatres up and down the country. This usually meant a long summer holiday for us in an exciting big town instead of Perth where I was brought up.
Are you interested in Scottish music then?

| | Graeme from Glasgow. Posted 28 Nov 2005. The BBC brought out The White Heather club on VHS video early in 1994 as a one of special edition. It contained a 30 minute documentary about the Great show and included interviews with all the shows stars and dancers that were still with us at the time including the late Andy Stewart and Jimmy Shand as well as 2 full episodes of the popular show. Sadly out of 285 episodes only 6 remain in the BBC archive. Understandably this video sold out very quickly and there has been no release of this popular show onto the DVD market. If you can still manage to track one down as I did grab it as they are now like gold dust.
Haste ye back white heather club!!!

| | David Scrymgeour from Kirriemuir. Posted 13 Jan 2006. For many years I was the proud owner of a 78RPM Long Playing record of Andy Stewart and the White Heather Club. I believe that this was possibly the only record where artists such as Andy Stewart, Robert Wilson,Jimmy Shand and his band, Joe Gordon Folk Four, James Urquhart, Anne and Laura Brand, Ian Powrie and his Band etc., all feautured together on one record. Great Stuff! Many of these great artists are no longer with us. It opened with Jimmy Shand playing the 6.20 two step. Unfortunately my record has been mislaid over the years - I wish there was some way I could get this transferred to CD. Does anyone have the record I am talking about and also the technology to get it onto CD?

| | Graeme from Glasgow University. Posted 6 Mar 2006. David there are 2 White Heather club albums that have now been put onto the CD format. I have purchased both of them and for there age they sound remarkably good. They have been tinkered with so they sound really clear. If you do a web search for them you should find them for around £10 each.
