Does anyone have any information on a comedian named Archie Glen? He performed in the music halls of Glasgow. As a descendant of his I am trying to find any trace of his life.

My name is Colleen Patton. My sister, Miriam Gallacher, has asked me to reply to your posting as she has been unable to send a reply from Canada. She has been researching her husband's family tree and has information relating to Archie Glen. If you contact here at the above email address she can give you what info she has.
Any probs with that email address, contact me at colleen.patton@bgowan.fsnet.co.uk

Hope you find this helpful.

Whilst it is true that AG was a headliner in Scotland, he also toured the south, but further down the bill. There is a film called "Variety Parade "which features music hall acts from the 1930s and he is in that.

I've been researching my family history and I believe the music hall Archie Glen is my Great Grandfather. He was Married to a Helen Wilson McAughtrie and I think they had 3 daughters one of which was my Gran, Helen Glen who's married name was Helen Scott. She passed away in 1995, however my Grandfather is still going strong at 92.

When I was a young lad in the late 60's, living in Sanquhar Dumfriesshire I used to go and visit an Archie Glen who was a Music Hall comedian. At the time he must have been in his 70's and we had a common interest in repairing radios and tv's. It was his hobby and my trade he lived in an old house in a little village called Mennock outside Sanquhar on the A76. His house had to be pulled down to make way for a new bridge. He then moved to a pensioner's house in Sanquhar. He never had much in the way of the fine things of life but he was a great character. In a way it was a bit sad to think that he had been such a well known entertainer and endeed his days in in obscurity. I moved away from the area in the early 70's and it was around then that Archie died but I often still think of him and it was by chance that I came on this message when i typed his name into a search engine. If you want to find out more contact me.
