For an on-going research project I would be interested in hearing from people of their memories of puppet-shows and ventriloquists performances. This could be any type of show from Punch & Judy on the beach or at a Fair, marionette shows, ventriloquists. Would also be interested in hearing from anyone who used to perform with puppets, etc, or whose parents or grandparents were involved.
Thanks.

I have just learned from members of my father's family who are English that my maternal great-grandparents, who were Scottish, had a puppet show and toured all over Europe with it.
My great-grandfather, Gershon Sedorski, came to Dundee from Poland in the middle of the nineteenth century, eventually settling in Glasgow, his wife was called Margaret Glen.
If anyone knows anything about their puppet show i would be ENCHANTED to learn about it.
They had eight children, my grandfather was John Sedorski, who moved to London in 1908 and worked as a commercial traveller for DMC (Dolphus, Meig and Co.) a French company still existing In Mulhouse, near Strasbourg.

I remember when I was a wee girl we used to go to a show in the park hall near the beach in Broughty Ferry where we saw puppets, ventriloquists and other fun things like singers and comedians. These shows were put on in the summer holidays, and I'm sure the entire child population would go there, it was very popular!

Thanks Jeannie & Fiona for that useful information.
Jeannie, I am very interested to hear more about your great-grandfather, Gershon Sedorski - perhaps you could e-mail me direct?
