BOB BAIN from GLASGOW. Posted 14 Jul 2003. Do you have any memories of going to the Glasgow Empire theatre?
The Glasgow Empire closed and was demolished in 1963.
Most of the big American stars appeared there. | | |

What memories! I went with my parents to see Laurel & Hardy, I think in about 1953, if i remember rightly, they were doing a world tour before they retired from the limelight.
And how's this for oneupmanship; I appeared on stage, doing a ventriliquist act at the Empire when i was about 15yrs old and not only that I had the stars dressing room. I also met Gene Vincent & Eddie Cochrane; I think that was his last gig before being killed on his way down south, (memories i could go, but I'm sure bored already) nice talking to you. Bye bye for now!!

Also have fond memories of the old Empire - Iwas brought up in Edinburgh but nobody of note ever came to Edinburgh apart from Cliff and Acker Bilk - the Glasgow Empire was the place to go - I'm sure on one of my visits appeared Duane Eddy / Bobby Darin / emile for and the checkmates and last but not least Clyde McFitter - how the mighty are fallen - part of the corner on which the Empire stood now houses a pizza palace.

| | Margaret Sligar from Richmond In USA. Posted 12 Jul 2006. I remember going to the Empire theatre every time they changed their program. I saw Judy Garland there when they turned down the lights and put a blue spotlight on her as she sang Over the Rainbow. She blew everyone away she was so good. Does any one remember Tommy Morgan at the Pavillion theatre in Glasgow doing his Big Beanie act? Oh the happy memories of Glasgow.
