Janet Bell from Alexandria, Dunbartonshire.. Posted 27 May 2003. I remember the days in Alexandria when at Hogmanay everyone gathered at the Fountain, the focal point of the village to hear the Pipe Band who played out the old year and brought in the new year. Everybody sang and when the new Year came in we sang Auld Lang Syne and shook hands with all the folks, and then went on our way to first foot families and friends.
I believe the Pipe Band was in the Film "Scotland on Film" and as my late husband was a piper in ther Band, I wondered if there is any possibility of a video being made so that I could buy it for my family. | | |
| | Mo Mallon from Markham, Ontario, Canada . Posted 2 Jun 2003. Janet, I lived in Dumbarton but served my apprenticeship at the RNTF (Royal Naval Torpedo Factory)in Alexandria in the 60's. I was also a member of the Loch Lomond Rowing Club, so I have many warm memories of the Fountain and Alexandria. I remember the Rowing Club used to have a "flag day" when we would stand around the Fountain on a saturday in the rain selling lapel pins to raise money.

| | Marnie Miller from Hamilton, Lanarkshire. Posted 13 Jan 2006. My Dad (John Freel - aged 75) hails from Paisley but, as a young fella, he used to travel to Alexandria/Vale of Leven to spend his summer holidays with his aunts in Albert Street. If I could obtain a photogrpah of Albert Street as he remembers it as a 10/14 year old, it would be fantastic. To this day, he returns every 1-2 weeks to just walk along Albert Street (his favourite place in the world). Any old photographs on Alexandria. I would love to make up a photograph album for him.

| | Edith Caulfield from Toronto, Canada. Posted 6 Mar 2006. Does anyone remember the Caulfield family from Dumbarton? They lived at Dalmonach Farm House. It has since been demolished and Patrick and Margaret have passed on, but I would love to see pictures of the house as it was when they were there.
