| | R.Trollope from Edinburgh. Posted 1 Apr 2003. I was born in the early 40's but still remember Dick Barton and his two side kicks Jock and Snowy. I also recall a radio programme called the Daring Dexters. I think they were a circus act but I'm not too sure. Being so young the only progs. I enjoyed were, Just William, Dan Dare (pilot of the future), The Lyon Family and Up the Pole with Jimmy Jewell and Ben Warris.

| | Peter Woodman from Bishopstone, Near Seaford, East Sussex.. Posted 3 Feb 2004. I think you will find that the jingle "Down in the jungle, living in a tent; better than a prefab - no rent!", appeared on the Charlie Chester radio show in 1946. Other Cheerful Charlie Chester sayings included "Ray Ling - the Chinese fence". Tommy Handley's characters and slogans were great favourites of all us avid BBC Home Service radio listeners during and after the War, (remember Fumpf and Don't forget the diver, Sir?). Later these great comedy shows were supplanted by the marvellous "Goon Show", fortunately still accessible on recorded tape.
