Whenever the anti-aircraft guns
would down a German aircraft
the local military would throw
up a barbed wire fence around the plane and charge you 3p or
6p to come in the fence to
observe the wreck.

Dear George
Enjoyed reading your messages to Forum.
My mum remembers a bomb being dropped on the Fallside Road near Bothwell.
The plane which dropped it was returning to Germany from Glasgow, and offloaded it over this small village.
My husband and two sons attended the Academy, in the 1950's and 70's, and my grandson is now in his fourth year there. you would find it very different now, for one the belt is banned!
The school has grown over the years and teaches subjects which were not even heard of in the forties.
Hope to read more of your memories in the future.
All the best
Maureen.
