I'm a student studying tv production and operations.
I'm in the process of trying to gain funding to make a documentary about Scottish troops and the allied invasion to mark the 60th anniversary of d-day.
I'm looking to speak, meet and film veterans with the possibility of making a documentary outlining their experiences during the war. The style im hoping to do a fly on the wall documentary and maybe follow veterans back to normandy marking the 60th anniversary.
I think it is important that the British public see and understand what people went through in order for our generation to live the life we do.
i would be most greatfull if any one could help in assisting me.

thank you

Dear David, I am a German English teacher and I have just read your letter.
I am no veteran, of course, but I have been to Omaha beach in France four years ago. There I got to know the story about the Scottish backpiper whose pipe led the English parachuters through the fog so that they could join the invasion troups.
At the Falaise museum I met a group of English veterans (Royal fusileers)and shook Hands and asked to have a photo taken. (I have to add that I am the daughter of a German 2nd- world-war-soldier)
Some of the old men secretly wiped away some tears when we lined up for the photo.
I tell this story over and over again to my pupils...
They love it, but most of all the story of the Scottish backpiper!

Kindest regards to you - maybe we will somehow meet at the 60th anniversary of D-day...
Yours, Christina Bartels

Hi Christina
I was glad to read your reply. I will look into the story of the Scottish bagpiper as it certainly sounds intersting. I would also like to add I think it is important to show all the sacrafices made by everyone during the war and the d-day landings.
i have the utmost respect for all servicemen during the war it is important that people realise what happened during these horrific times regardless of their nationality. All countries suffered during the war and many people died fighting for a cause which they may not have fully had faith in.

Hi David, did you find out about the Scottish bagpiper? If not, you should perhaps look it up in the book "The longest day".
I hope you did well with your film!! Kindest regards from Christina, Germany
