Myra Denton from Glasgow . Posted 23 Mar 2002. I was the Girl Dux at Lambill Street School, Kinning Park, Glasgow in 1958. I remember being very proud of the book I received and being told my name would be engraved on a trophy.
The only problem was that they never let us see the trophy. I often wonder what happened to it as the school was closed a long time ago. | | |

| | Janet McKechnie from Lochgelly. Posted 25 Apr 2002. When I was five years old I remember going to school with my slate board and pencil and, if we were well behaved, we would get a big oddfellow from the teacher, which we all tried hard to get.

| | Evelyn Taylor. Posted 22 Jul 2002. I remember first thing on a Monday morning having to fill the ink wells on everyone's desk. I used to make my own pen out of seagull feathers and put a nib on it and take it to school with me. It was quite messy at times. Summer holidays were always hot and full of fun. We played games in the street as there were only a few cars about and it was very safe. We were never bored as children and always found some adventure to keep us occupied during the long summer holidays.

| | Alan Cameron from Lanarkshire. Posted 11 Apr 2002. Iwas at primary from about 1957. Friday afternoon at 2.15 we would all troop into the gym hall. The teacher with the most technical expertisewould then set upwhat seemed at the time,a huge film projector and an enormous screen. We would then be shown films about Scotland and History, exotic far away places, home safety, health, sometimes a Childrens Foundation Film and of course cartoons and animation, usually, but not always Disney. Sometimes it wasFreleng, Looney Tunesor Bugs Bunny. They usuallyhad a moral to them. I think there was a Lanarkshire Education Board central point that the schoolordered thesefilms from, and they were delivered the following Friday. The showing of the films was for education, the entertainment value was, I don't think, ever considered. Our school loved them! What a way to end the week.
