I attended Saint Saviour's School around 1950-1954. It was run by a wonderful woman Named Miss Herman. If anyone has any info'about the school I would love to hear it. I recently went back to Edinburgh and found the school had been turned into condo's. It was a wonderful school and I have loving memories of Miss Herman.

Hi!| Helena , I,m so excited as we have only been able to get these archives as from to-day. and to see your message is unbelievable. I too went to St Saviours. Miss Herdman was there forever I think. I was brought up in the Canongate and my family were members of Old St Pauls church in Jeffrey Street, they ran the School. Maiden name is Nelson from Dunbars Close Canongate. love to hear from you from Eliza

Hello Eliza,
We also attended St. Paul's Church.
I lost the internet due to a virus and I thought I would never find this site again.
It is good to hear from you. It was over 2 years ago and I visited the school which is now Condo's. I was disappointed that there was no plaque to say that it had been a school but I did meet someone who lived there and talked briefly to her.

Miss Herdman was my God-mother, I believe I was her last God-child. I remember visiting her in the hospital before she died. She was just a wonderful person.

Did you ever go on summer holidays with her? She had a lot of influential friends with large homes. We moved to Germany in 1952 and when we came back I went to Moredun Park School. We moved out to Moredun when I was about two and I was brought in to attend St. Saviour's. Remember the gardens at the back? Lovely.

In 1970, I went to see the school and a woman called Sadie recognized me after all those years and showed me a picture of myself on the wall. I should have asked her for it as it would not be of any value to anyone but myself.

Tell me more about Miss Herdman if you can remember.

Thanks

Helena

Dear Helena,
Great to hear from you. I sent an e mail to the programme asking how we could get in touch on a more personnal basis as I have paper work you would be interested in, such as the report for years 1950,51, 52, with a few photos in them. Also, a copy of the magazine called The First Fifty Years. I have photo-copies I could let you have if it was at all possible to send them to you.

I attended St Saviours a long time before you - 1936 until the war started then I went to the evacuation with the school.

Later I attended Milton House school. I could go on forever talking about the beautiful gardens and all the lovely holiday places we were taken to.Just like you I have lots of happy memories of my childhood at st Saviours, unlike you, living in Edinburgh, I have managed to keep in touch with some of the past.

Let me hear from you soon.

Hi Helena,
Do not seem to have much luck contacting you it would appear you have only received one message from me. I have had four sent back I have investigated the reason for this at this end and they can find nothing wrong. The awful thing is that two of them at least have my address on them so I can do nothing but hold on to the memories until things sort themselves out.

I know contacting you this way is always keeping us in touch otherwise. About meeting the person called Sadie way back on your visit here, Im positive it was a lady called Sadie Anderson she was at the evacuation with the school (she was known as auntie Sadie) her children and family all attended St Saviours and all the mothers that did go with the evacuation were all know as auntie and what ever first name they had along with it, something of a tradition at the school. I only hope this problem can be sorted out real soon.
Regards
Eliza
