David. Posted 6 Jul 2002. Winter came along with the usual smog, we all wore a hankie over our mouths then! The pain of our wellies rubbing into the back of our legs (ouch!). Dad permanently waving the TV aerial about to get some sort of picture on the telly. Yes, I have fond memories of that time.
Loads of memories of childhood then. For kids then everything was seasonal. Not a lot of money but loads of fun. We played in safe streets: kick the can , beds (drawn out with chalk) and chap door runaway, ha ha that was fun! In Autumn we played conkers and hunted for the crab apple trees. | | |

David, Although brough up in Govahill in the early 60's, I also remember the my Dad's cloth hankie over my mouth, wrapped in a woolen scarf to hold it on. When I took it off, it was always black. My Mum also tied the same scarf round my face when I had mumps. It went under the chin and was tied in a big knot on the top of my head and Mum took me out shopping with her-what a sight I must have been. In writing this, I know remember genitian violet painted on my face for cold sores, etc. I have happy memories also but some, like those above, make me cringe. One memory that makes me feel nauseous is being made to drink cod liver oil every day...what was that for?????
