
5th October 1922 saw the birth of Jock Stein, famous Scottish football manager.
Stein was manager of Celtic between 1965 and 1978, during which time it was one of the most successful clubs in Europe, and in 1967 became the first British club to win the European Cup. He managed the national squad from 1978-85, and it was after Scotland's 1-1 draw with Wales in a World Cup qualifier that he collapsed and died from a heart attack.
