On 14 March 1952, the first TV programme to be broadcast in Scotland showed the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society performing the Duke of Edinburgh Reel.

The broadcast was celebrating the opening of Kirk o' Shotts station in Lanarkshire and came from Studio 1 in Edinburgh's Broadcasting House. The announcers for the evening were Mary Malcolm and Alastair MacIntyre.

Today in 1900 saw the birth of Scottish lawyer, Dame Margaret Kidd. Not only was Kidd Scotland's first woman advocate, but she was also the first woman King's Counsel in Britain and the first woman to plead before the House of Lords. She was appointed Britain's first woman KC on 20 December 1948
