
Thomas Muir of Huntershill, the Glasgow-born Advocate, was arrested for sedition on the 2nd January 1793.
He was released after a few days and went to France. On his return to Scotland, Muir was tried and sentenced to 14 years transportation. Muir was the founder of the Scottish Friends of the People. Muir and the other leaders of this group transported to Australia, are known as the Scottish Martyrs.
