The figures in the graph below represent the unemployment claimant count carried out by the Office of National Statistics (ONS). It excludes claimants on government training schemes and a small number of other claimants who are not regarded as being available for unemployment, i.e. adult students and people temporarily stopped from employment.
This set of statistics by ONS is designed mainly to help assess trends in the labour market.
