Family Expenditure

The information in the pie chart represents a survey of a random sample of private households in the UK carried out by the Office for National Statistics (ONS). The figures are based on prices between 1999 and 2000. It should be noted that because these figures represent a survey of a sample of households and not the whole population, the results are liable to be different if every single household had been covered.

Study the graph and decide which of the following statements are true or false.

Graph

1 Essential items, such as housing, food, clothing, fuel and power make up more than half the half the household budget.
2 The average family spends more on alcohol and tobacco than on fuel and power.
3 The average family spends more on housing and heating than they do on leisure and motoring.
4Leisure takes up more than one third of family spending
