deposition

In contrast to coastlines of erosion, which are the product of a destructive process, coastlines of deposition are formed by the gradual building up of material. This constructive process is responsible for several interesting geographical features.

Erosion and deposition work together to create our shoreline –

The sand, shingle and pebbles which make up our beaches are the remnants of cliffs and rocks, ground down into small particles by attrition.

The location and structure of our beaches are often determined by deposition.
