Colin & Cumberland is an introduction to the Gaelic language through television and online. Short animated television programmes based on the comic capers of Colin and Cumberland introduce the viewer to their world and encourage them to visit this games-rich website and learn some key Gaelic phrases.
All the components of this project are carefully structured to deliver the language content and are based on a sound pedagogical approach developed by language specialists. Game 1 is aimed at complete beginners containing content from Introduction through to Entry levels. Game 2 revisits this content and also further develops the language learning into Entry and Foundation levels.
The main language learning content is found within the 'Games' section of the website. There are two games, each containing a series of mini-games. Learning follows the same structure within all the mini-games providing a logical and simple progression. The game contains progressive learning and will start at the most basic level with Gaelic, English language and a visual clue. As the user progresses through the levels the game must be completed using Gaelic alone.
All language content can also be found within the Little Black Book/Wordbank (mirrored in the Little Black Book within 'The Game'). This can be used as a reference whilst playing the games or as a simple learning tool.
Audio recordings are available of all the language examples helping the user with pronunciation.
