Charles's Story
Just a photo in the houses of all his children who seemed to never be mentioned as his wife had remarried. His children were all my uncles or aunts on my mothers side, so he was my maternal grandfather. He was one of the thousands killed and never found on the fateful 25th September 1915. I am to visit the cemetary where he is remembered by a plaque on the wall, as were so many of the men killed in that disastrous war. I am his grandson and 69 years young. I am excited about being able at last to say my goodbyes to a brave man who left to join the army aged 34 with a wife and 5 children. May they all rest in peace and be remembered.
