Peter's Story

I always remember the story my grandpa told me of the officer all grand and pompous on his white horse. Off he went and took a direct hit.

My grandpa was mentioned in despatches for delivering a message under fire. He was invalided out after getting shrapnel in his kidney. Went on to work in the Greenock Torpedo Factory

My grand father was Roman Catholic. When recuperating in England after injury he was invited to go to the Anglican Service by the Lady of the the country house where he was staying. He said he was RC to which she replied well, you can peel the potatoes. He refused.

My grandfather seems to have spent a fair amount of time after the war fighting to get his pension rights.
