L-Cpl "Bert" Mingo came from Topsham nr Exeter. He joined the 7th Devons in May 1915, and was transferred to the Worcester Regt. He was captured at St Quentin and imprisioned in a German camp where he had to load coal trucks, if the prisioners didn't work hard enough the were beaten with rifle butts. Food was veg broth and bread. Food parcels never reached him, he even sold his gold ring for extra bread. He contracted dysentery and died two days before his 23rd birthday and the end of hostilities. He is buried in Weivel Cemetery.
