Clifford Smith joined the 7th battalion the Manchester Regiment in 1915? He was transfered to A company of the 19th battalion the Kings Own Liverpool regiment.
A company was moving up from Bodmin Copse to Stirling Castle ,Sanctuary Wood in support of the 2nd Bedfords, who were holding the Polderhoek Chateau when he was killed in heavy shellfire with 2 other men, 1 officer and 1 other man were wounded. Clifford is named as one of the missing on the Tyne Cot memorial.
