Herbert's Story

My grandfather wrote home in Aug 1914, saying that they believed it wouldn't last that long.

He was killed in Moulins France, Sept 17th 1914, less than a month after he sent the letter home, at the Retreat from Mons. He had been in the war for 6 weeks. We don't know where he is buried. His name is on the Memorial to the Missing in Action at La Ferte Sous Jouarre near Chateau Thierry in the Marne Valley.
