Archibald's Story

Archie, as he was known joined the 16th Battalion Royal Irish Rifles in October 1914. This battalion was formed at Brownlow House in Lurgan. Training for these men included trench digging in Lurgan Park, road laying from Castle Lane to Brownlow House and military exercises between Lurgan and Portadown.

ARCHIE LYNESS WAS AWARDED A CERTIFICATE FOR BRAVERY, RIFLEMAN A. LYNESS No.924 16TH BAT ROYAL IRISH RIFLES FOR GALLANTRY IN RESCUSING WOUNDED MEN ON THE 1ST AND 2ND OF JULY 1916, FROM NO MANS LAND AT HAMEL.
