Ernest's Story

There were many British Army deaths in Iraq. The war in Mesopotamia is often forgotten.

Ernest J Brown joined the army before 1914. He is buried at Basra War Cemetery in Iraq. At the time, the Royal West Kent Regiment were safeguarding the oil fields. There were many British Army deaths in Iraq during the war. The war in Mesopotamia is often forgotten. In an article in The Indepependent in June 2004, Robert Fiske links the current British Army role in Basra to those of the First and Second World War.
