Colin George's Story
A boy soldier who was a war veteran at the age of 17
Colin enlisted at the age of 14 and after serving in India his regiment was posted to the Eastern front. He was wounded while fighting the Turks at El Meonieze which was a critical engagement, his platoon was sent up to reinforce the line and Colin took a bullet in the neck, two of his comrades (Ash and Sawyer) carried him to the dressing station and he was then taken to Gaza hospital where he died 5 days later from his wounds on the 22nd November 1917. It was sad that his brother Trooper Henry Bishop of the City of London Regiment arrived at Gaza too late to fulfil his intention of claiming his young brother's discharge on account of his young age. Colin is buried in Cairo War Memorial Cemetery Egypt.
