John's Story
John Keenan 20013 1st Bn; East Lancashire Regiment killed on the 8th July 1915 age 35, younger brother of Thomas Keenan 203753 2nd Bn East Lancashire Regiment killed on the 17th February 1918 age 39 they were both killed in WW1. They are Both Proudly Remembered With Honour, John on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial and his older brother Thomas lies in the Nine Elms British Cemetery in Poperinge, Belgium. Two of six sons who all worn Khaki, another son Michael died in 1905 after service in India, James, Edward and William were all wounded and discharged from the army, a seventh brother Patrick was not fit for service due to a disability in his arm.
