Robert's Story

Robert Halliday was my grandmother's brother. He volunteered in 1914 and joined the KOSBies. He was sent to Gallipoli and was killed in action on Monday 15th July 1915. His mother Agnes McNee was distraught on the news. She refused to believe he was dead, and went every day to Hawick railway station to meet the returning troop trains. As time went on her health deteriorated and my mother told me she "died of a broken heart" in 1921.
