Albert James's Story

Albert James Ford was born 12th July 1877 at 8 Sidney Row, Bedminster to William FORD (mariner) and Caroline Augusta (nee WHITING). Albert married Edith Alethea Sullivan on 15th June 1902, and they lived at 1 Avon Crescent, Cumberland Road, Bristol. Albert and Edith had six children, five girls and one boy. Albert never saw his youngest daughter who was born in June 1917, a few weeks before Albert's death. Albert was a merchant seaman all his working life until he enlisted in December 1915 with the Royal Berkshire Regiment. He transferred to the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry before ending up as Private 21336 in the 14th Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Albert was killed in action on 26th October 1917 at Passchendaele. He is honoured on the Memorial to the Missing at Tyne Cot Cemetery. To this day Albert is remembered by his many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great granchildren.
