Christopher's Story
I only recalled that we had a relative killed on the Western Front when we found a Memorial card to Christopher Longton amongst my mother's possessions almost 20 years after her death. Thinking back I can remember going on holiday with my mother to visit WW1 battlefields and cemetries and that she was looking for someone's name on the graves and memorials. I researched Chris Longton and found that he was killed at Guillemont on 12th August 1916 after a direct hit on the dugout. He was the Batman to the RSM and both he and Chris were killed instantly. His name is recorded on the Thiepval Memorial. Christopher Longton was my mother's cousin.
