Signed his attestation on 28th August 1914 aged 22 years and became 2117 Private A. V. Littlewood. 4th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment.

He remained in the UK until 16th April 1915 before departing for France.

Then served in France (Somme) until being wounded (gun shot wound to right kidney) on 13th October 1915

On 20th October 1915 Lance Corporal A V Littlewood Repatriated

18th August 1916 Transferred from North Camp Command Depot, Ripon to Military Corp Railway. Longmoor. Hants. Becoming 171395 Sapper A. V. Littlewood. Royal Engineers

4th February 1919 Mil: Con: Hosp. Old Barracks Crownhill. Devonport Suffering from Influenza
