Robert's Story

Robert was my great-great-uncle. All I had was his name and photograph. I have since found that he was a draper's assistant in Glasgow, who joined the Highland Light Infantry in 1914. He was in B.Company, 7 Platoon of the 2nd HLI. He was killed in action in November 1916 aged 22 and is buried at Redan Ridge Cemetry. I have been in correspondence with the Commonwealth War Graves Commision over the last few years as his grave was marked as Cpl.G.Cumming instead of Cpl.R. Cumming. I am most grateful for their efforts in amending his headstone and look forward to visiting his resting place in person.
