Samuel Henry's Story

On 7 May 1915 Samuel was serving on HMS Crusader spotting for German batteries near Dunkirk. When her sister ship HMS Maori was mined and started sinking, HMS Crusader lowered her boats to go to the rescue. The Germans captured all 95 officers and crew of HMS Maori and some of the sailors from HMS Crusader (including Samuel). They spent the next 3 1/2 years in the POW camp at Giessen. They were repatriated in November 1918.
