Percy's Story
Died on the first day battle of the Somme. His body was never retrieved, but was last seen crying for his mother in Gommecourt Wood. He was, I believe, 16 or 17 years old. He always told his mother that he did not think he could fight with a bayonet. He was my uncle. I never knew him. I have a very old photograph of him in his uniform. He looked very youg and gentle. His name is on the Theipval war memorial in France.
