George Ernest Fell's Story

He was shot in the shoulder and was taken prisoner

George Ernest Fell was my great grandad. He was a driver in the 37th brigade of the ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY. He was a special reseve in the army many years before the war began, but i can not locate his records so i dont have the exact year when he started. When the war began he was one of the first to be sent to France and on the 26th of August he was captured at the Battle of Mons whilst in retreat from the advancing Germans. He was shot in the shoulder and was taken prisoner, and so spent the whole of the war in a p.o.w camp. The bullett that shot him remained in his body until the day he died in 1963. My grandmother says that you could feel it lodged under his skin. A rare war souveneir im sure.
