John's Story
Unfortunately, I never knew my Grandad and neither did my father, his son, who was just a babe in arms at the time of his
death. He died when the troop ship he was on, taking him to Egypt sank after being torpedoed in Alexandia's harbour, I have been unable to find his service records and I cannot confirm the name of the ship, but I think that its likely that it was the HMS Osmanieh, because that ship is recorded to have been sunk on the day he died. Aged 27years, he left a widow and two young sons.
