William's Story
William was our Grandfather. He served for the duration of the War having previously been in the Army and then re-called at the outbreak of hostlilities. He was a blacksmith by trade. He married our Grandmother in Falmouth in 1911 and had our Dad in 1914. He was killed by a shell in April 1918 in Kemelbeek, Belgium and is buried in Gwalia Cemetery.
We think of him often
A relative of ours recently visited and we hope to soon. He wasn't memorialised anywhere and we campaigned to have a plaque put on his home memorial in Curry Rivel. This was done last year and we were very pleased and proud that his name is now where it should be.
