Richard's Story

Richard Evans - always known as "Sonny" - was a railway joiner with the Cambrian Railway Company in Oswestry who enlisted in August 1914. He served in France from June 1915 until October 1916, was reputedly gassed and buried alive. He spent 3 weeks in hospital in Rouen and was transferred to the Labour Corps in Yorkshire until his discharge in 1919.

Sonny lived into his eighties, back in Oswestry.
