Ernest's Story

In 1917 Cpl EF Wintle volunteered at the outbreak of war and was mentioned in despatches for his bravery and gallant conduct in the field 18th July and 19th August 1916 (the battle of the Somme). He was also commended by the Commanding Officer Lt Col J Burnett of the 1st Battalion of the Gordon Highlanders.
