John Thomas Cyril's Story
My mother married John Thomas Cyril Cowley in 1912 and had one daughter Beatrice. He and his brother had good singing voices and while home on leave before going back to France they heard the song "Sunshine of your smile". They had my mom write down the words for them so that they could sing the song to their fellow soldiers when they returned to the front.
Private John Thomas Cyril Cowley Was killed in the battle of the Somme along with his brother.
There is a line in that song that says " Give me the right to love you all the while" but unfortunately their "While" didn't last long. Private John Thomas Cyril Cowley Was killed in the battle of the Somme along with his brother. My mother remarried and when I was born in 1927 my mother named me Cyril after her first love.
