William James's Story

Private William James Kent

He served with the Duke of Cornwalls Light Infantry. Only "discovered" him last year!! He was killed in action in Greece and is buried in a military cemetery in Doiran, Northern Greece. I dont know a great deal about him as my family never spoke about him. I only found all this out through finding a photo of him & just kept going online until i found him. It's just so sad to think that he's laid there all these years & no-one knew. I hope to go out there & visit his grave with my father soon, he was my fathers' mum's brother.

He may have served with our great Uncle William Beers who died and is buried in the same cemetery.

I have looked at the war diaries and the skirmish William died in was at night and in high confusion.

The good thing was they had had strawberry jam for the first time in months just before hand.
