Edwin Ernest Berry's Story

my great uncle ted, brother to my grandmother left these shores with the Robin Hood Rifles. Under age he joined up and became part of the Notts and Derbys Sherwoods with who he served untill his death at Gommecourt on the 1st July 1916.

I never knew him.......May God rest his soul

Private 266516 Edwin Ernest Berry

" Who shall sing the song of them,

The wonder and the strength of them,

The Gaiety and tenderness,

They bore across the sea.

In every heart's the song of them,

The debt that England owes to them,

The chivalry and fearlessness,

That strove - and won her free. "

Arthur W. Brewhill, Lieut.- Colonel Commanding

7th ( Robin Hood ) Battilion Sherwood Foresters.
