Thomas's Story

If the baby is a boy call him Albert I am stationed near there.

Thomas Bennett was a career soldier and was sent to the western front from India where he was serving with the 1 Bn Manchester Regiment Jullundur Brigade. He arrived in France in August 1914 and served with various battalions of th Manchesters including a short stint back at home training soldiers of 14 Battalion. He returned to France with 11 Manchesters and sadly was killed in action on 17 August 1917 during the battle of Langemark. He never saw the child his wife Mildred was expecting it was a girl and she was called Mary. Tom's mother in Liverpool never got over his death and died in an Asylum. He produced a daughter, grandaughter and two grandsons who will remember him.
