John Robert (Bob) to all his friends and family was hard working, with a mild manner ready to help any one.
On a trip to the front he was shelled (the road was elevated with no cover so he would have been seen by the German gunners, silhouetted against the sky) but arrived and delivered the supplies.
For the return his limber was loaded with the bodies of fallen soldiers. On the journey back he was spotted and was again shelled, this time the rear trailer was blown off and one of the mules sustained a severe wound to its flank.
On arrival back to his depot he discovered all the bodies had been lost as well as the rear trailer.
He sadly passed away 14th of April 1973.
John Robert Steed. M M. was indeed a great father to our family and without doubt an excellent soldier during the great war.
