John's Story
The soldier named above was my grandmother's favourite brother, who when she was suffering from dementia at the end of her life she would often mistake me for him.
Though as far as I know he died in a prisoner of war camp sometime near the end of the first world war, having joined the army dispite only having one eye after an accident as a child. He also joined against his father's wishes and as far as I know gave a false address and no next of kin, though he may have used his sisters name(my grandmother).
Because of this secrecy I now know little about him except his being in the Black Watch and having such an impact on my grandmother that some sixty years latter he was one of the very few people she could remeber.
